(Betts: 36-5) First edition.In part 1, 175 terms and themes are explained and discussed by the editors, and each is illustrated by four two-movers by members of the Good Companion Chess Problem Club of Philadelphia. Part 2 consists of a supplementary selection of problems, with whole work containing 912 problems by 174 different composers, selected from the Clubs periodical, 1913-1921. Includes and index of composers and portraits.Condition:Holladay's underlining and notes through out and on paste downs and end papers, corners bumped, some rubbing to extremities, else a good copy issued without jacket.
