Now in Mylare. "In 1793 Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe ordered a road cut through the wilderness of Upper Canada - a military link westward from Lake Ontario & a spur to settlement. 'The Governor's Road' it was called, partly in derision, for its path was narrow and winding, beset with stones & stumps. But the settlers did come; they and their buildings are the subject of this book. The illustrations are by Hugh robertson. They show public buildings as well - inns, mills, churches, courthouses, and jails."
