Description

Cambridge, Ontario: Grand River Conservation Foundation, 2004. 159 pp, 11 1/4" H. Profusely illustrated with colour photographs. Signed on half-title page: "Carl Hiebert". "The Grand River flows for 298 kilometres (185 miles) from Dundalk to Lake Erie, past historic hilltop villages, a first nations reserve and industrial cities; through rare Carolinian forests and unique wildlife habitat. It is fed by provincially significant wetlands, and countless small tributaries that bolster its flow. This is the watershed of the Grand, a Canadian Heritage River. But beyond the geographical boundaries and natural diversity, a river has a way of carrying us into its midst, feeding our personal needs for adventure and solitude. Carl Hiebert's photographs give us a new dimension from which to experience the river - the air. From his ultralight aircraft, wings carving through the crisp morning air, Carl is able to capture moments that we never see from the ground. In his photos we become sky touching earth - the mist as it rises unveiling a small town; the sunset as it washes over deer running into a forest; the plane's shadow passing over the field, its long wings gliding like a hawk. We begin to touch the river as delicately as this shadow, flying over open fields, natural gardens and communities." A 3/4" shallow dent on the rear board. Dust jacket has very light edge wear/wrinkling, some various sized smaller dents and some line indentations on the panels, light rubbing, one tiny closed puncture mark.. Signed by author/photographer.. Second Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good -/Good+. Illus. by Carl Hiebert, photographer..
