[viii]+388, numerous illustrations (several full page), index; small med. 8vo; black & white pictorial papered boards, edges a trifle rubbed, top fore-corners bruised, the lower board faintly soiled; price-clipped dust wrapper, lightly foxed on both sides, edges rubbed and chipped, with a few small tears, the back panel slightly creased; book label of David Levine, Sydney, and bookseller's sticker on upper pastedown, two small surface grazes on upper free endpaper (one from signature erasure near top fore-corner), the free endpapers faintly offset, top fore-corner of several leaves lightly creased, a little light foxing; Macmillan, London, 1940. First edition. *The striking cover design (repeated on the dust wrapper) is by Farleigh. Includes chapters on private presses; illustrating books and dust wrappers; and George Bernard Shaw's The Adventures of the Black Girl in her Search for God - the book for which Farleigh was best known as an illustrator.
