Boston.: Houghton Mifflin Company., 1935. 2nd printing one year after 1st copyright.. Hard cover. Fine in very good dust jacket. Light repairs w/ clear tape to jacket edges.. 1 288 p. Blue textured cloth over boards. Arched "window" on front w/ native brave, bow, stars, as though just having shot an arrow upwards. Gold w/ gold spine titles. Image repeated on blue jacket. Non-fiction. An account of the 1676 gathering summoned by Chief Metacom (King Philip) on Mt. Wachusett. It was a powwow toward driving the English invaders from their New England hunting grounds. The sweep of "civilization" was overpowering to the natives and the young chief who ultimately could not save his people. Illustrations (15) were made from old woodcuts, plus photos. The cover art is from a photo of a bronze stature by sculptor Philip S Sears. It is called "Pumunangueet--He who shoots the stars". It stands outside the Harvard MA Indian Museum.
