London: John Murray, 1859. Leather. Fine. 10" by 6.5". Unamed. A beautifully bound and illustrated copy of this work on Greece. In an attractive red morocco binding with gilt detailing. Original publisher's advertisements to the rear. Profusely illustrated with fifteen steel engraved plates, four maps, one plan and numerous engravings in the text. Christopher Wordsworth was an English bishop in the Anglican Church, a man of letters, author and nephew of the poet William Wordsworth. He went on a tour of Greece between 1832-1833 after which he published various works on the topography and archaeology of the region, of which this is his most famous. In a sumptuous publisher's full morocco binding elaborately decorated with all over gilt and gilt edges. Externally, in lovely condition with just some minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the occasional handling mark. Eton presentation inscription to an early page dated 1871. Fine
