London: William S.Orr & co. 2nd edition fiirst printing, 1844. Hardcover. Steel plates and maps [22 of 28] -we can supply facsimiles of the missing plates on request. + 350 wood engravings illustrating scenery,architecture and costume of that country. lg 8vo [in 4's] Gilt black morrocco leather on 5 raised double bands with gilt spine compartments, gilt to bands, gilt cover decoration, gilt reverses & dentelles. [spine split to one top compartment / leather scuffed/ tips somewhat worn] All Edges Gilt. Frontis + engraved title + xxiv [=printed title + Preface +Greek geography + contents + illustrations] + 356pp. The plates are in sequence but not at their listed page number. There are stab holes but without loss up to pp75 and also 3 leaves wih corner creases where they were folded down. About half the plates have damp marks to the margins just encroaching into a corner of the plates but the text is complete and without marks or tears and the paper is crisp and clean. Name, Christine Anna Cruse,to pastedown. A good reading copy with many of the nicest plates present.
