About This Item

Philadelphia: Theodore Presser, 1915. Softcover. Very Good. Approx. 4" x 8"; 15 pp. each; Illustrations. Yellow wrappers; titles and illustrations in red and black. The grouping consists of one book for each of the following composers: Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Hadyn, Handel, Mozart, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Tschaikowsky [sic]. The booklets are personalized by the students who completed them. Ownership names are charmingly inscribed on the first page and written exercises are present throughout the booklet. Each page of text also contains one or two spaces for cut-out illustrations to be glued in. Most booklets also include a written summary of the composer's life on the last two pages. The former owners performed these tasks very nicely. This is a neat bit of early 20th century advertising by the music publisher Theodore Presser Co., which encouraged music education.
