Cambridge: Cambridge University Press 1910, 5th edition. (Hardcover) Very good, no dust jacket. 724pp. Burgundy cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Frontispiece, notes, illustrations, bibliography, index. The corners are lightly bumped, the spine is worn at the top and bottom, and the covers are slightly rubbed. "Eight hundred years have now passed since William of Normandy carried out a great survey of the kingdom he had secured, and embodied the result of his enquiry as to its economic condition in Domesday Book. This work stands out as a great monument which plainly records the general character of English life in bygone days, though there is much difficulty in interpreting the details of the information it contains" - from the Introductory Essay, "Past and Present".
