About This Item
Evans Brothers Limited, 1961. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. h/b 175 pages, condition is very good. Guns Off Cape Ann - the story of the Shannon and the Chesapeake. A blow-by-blow account of the brief but bloody encounter between His Britannic Majesty's frigate SHANNON, commanded by Captain Philip Broke, the best captain in the British North American Squadron, and handsome Captain James Lawrence in command of the United States frigate CHESAPEAKE. This took place in June, 1813, off Cape Ann, north of Massachusetts Bay, during the British American War. Both ships hammered each other until, after fifteen minutes, the American ship struck her colours and Britain had a much needed victory after a series of reverses inflicted by the Americans.
