Description

London: W. Foulsham & Co. , 1914. Cloth. Good. 8.5" by 5.5". Ruisdal; Steen. A unique pseudo-autobiography by David Duguid about Hafed Prince of Persia, a warrior prince and Archmagus, whose life story he claimed to receive through the trance medium. A 1914 popular edition copy of 'Hafed Prince of Persia: His Experiences in Earth-Life, and Spirit-Life, Being Spirit Communications'. This dialogue was said to be received through spiritual medium (and author) David Duguid. Illustrated with in-text illustrations in the appendix by 'spirit artists Ruisdal and Steen'. This pseudo-autobiography of Hafed Prince of Persia walks the reader through his life as a warrior prince, a member of the Magi, and Archmagus. The book is divided into 'sittings' rather than chapters, to show different points at which Duguid received these meditations from Hafed. Contents include 'Hafed's Address to the Troops', 'Communion with his Spirit-guide', 'Hafed chosen to be Archmagus', and 'The Magi Taught by Spirits'. David Duguid was a Scottish spiritual-medium and cabinet-maker who also dabbled in psychic painting. His spirit communication with Hafed Prince of Persia might have been inspired by Saint Melchior, purportedly the 'King of Persia' and part of the Biblical Magi. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, cloth has some damp staining. Minimal bumping to extremities and head and tail of spine. Damp stain across the top corner of the boards and along the margins. Prior owner's ink inscription on front pastedown. A bit of cockling to rear pastedown. Some spotting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound, with the binding loosening slightly in the middle. Pages are bright and clean, with some age-toning to margins and the odd spot throughout. Some age-toned discolouration to first and last page of text. Good
