About the author

In 1993 I received my history degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and in 1997 began writing for my hometown newspaper, the Hull Times. Today, I am editor of a national Coast Guard history magazine, Wreck & Rescue Journal, write for several local newspapers on the South Shore of Boston, contribute regularly to the Captain's Seaside Guide, Northeast Boating, South Shore Living, Ships Monthly and other regional publications and have authored thirty books on local and national history and current events, including The Coast Guard with the Foundation for Coast Guard History. I have appeared as an on-screen expert on programs on The History Channel, The Learning Channel, The Weather Channel, The Travel Channel and numerous local and regional broadcasts. I work full-time for Mass Audubon as a trip leader and program creator.
