Johnston (1864 - 1952) was an American photographer, known in particular for photographing Black and Native American subjects. This publication showcases Johnston's 1899 commission to photograph students at the Hampton Normal School, Hampton, Virginia. The photographs were first exhibited in 1900. This book is based on a 1966 exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Browning to the spine extends on front and back cover, blank back cover has soil. . Trade Paperback. Good/No Jacket.
