About the author

John C. Norcross, PhD, ABPP, is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Scranton, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and a clinical psychologist in part-time practice. He is past-president of the APA Society of Clinical Psychology, the APA Division of Psychotherapy, and the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration. Among his 25 coauthored books are Psychotherapy Relationships That Work, Clinician's Guide to Evidence-Based Practice in Behavioral Health, Insider's Guide to Graduate Programs in Psychology, Psychologists' Desk Reference, and Systems of Psychotherapy: A Transtheoretical Analysis, now in its 9th edition.

Marvin R. Goldfried, PhD, ABPP, is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Stony Brook University, where he was involved in developing its graduate program in clinical psychology. In addition to teaching, supervision, and research, he maintains a practice of psychotherapy in New York City. He is a diplomate in clinical psychology, fellow in the APA, and recipient of several awards from various professional organizations. He is past president of the clinical division of the APA, the psychotherapy division of the APA, and the Society for Psychotherapy Research. Dr. Goldfried is cofounder of the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration, founder of AFFIRM: Psychologists Affirming Their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Family, and founder of the Two-Way Bridge Between Research and Practice.
