A treatise on the regional organization of the system of settlements in the areas belonging administratively to the Eastern Roman Empire during the early byzantine period (4th to 6th century A.D.). The examination of this system covered 3048 settlements of all hierarchical levels and it attributes the distinctive characteristics of each one with geographical-spatial and cultural-historical analysis' criteria. The first volume covers the Thrakike, Illyrikon and Asiane provinces; the second covers the Pontike, Anatolike and Aegyptiake provinces.
