Her books have received many honors: ALA Notable, School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, Booklist Editor's Choice, IRA Teacher's Choice, Bulletin Blue Ribbon Book, and Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Book. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri.
