Yellow paper covers with flaps - red bands at top and bottom, red lettering on spine and front cover, gray/blue illustrations of movie stars by "Susannah" on front and rear covers. Small b&w phototographs. Flap retains the original price of 5'-. An uncommon wartime edition (date comes from the author's foreword). "Mr. Cairn has produced an intimate and lively series of word pictures of Hollywood's stars and other film folk. They will appeal to all students of the screen as a lasting record and are interesting and readable biographies in miniature of individuals who have climbed to fame by virtue of their artistry. His studies will fascinate the filmgoer and also act as a reliable guide to the exhibitor." Covers stars including Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, The Marx Bros., Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, Mae West, Marlene Dietrich, James Cagney, Ginger Rogers, Basil Rathbone, Tyrone Power, Billie Burke, Spencer Tracy and James Stewart, plus others of influence in Hollywood like Walt Disney, Sam Goldwyn, and Frank Capra. Other pieces include: Mass Hypnotism, Films Should Be Advertised, Judge and Mrs. Hardy, Beautiful but Dumb, Fresh Faces, Gangster Films, Dance Bands and Choruses, The Spirit of the Dead End Kids, The Director, etc. Interior - light foxing on the free rear endpaper, spine is light cracked in two places - pages are held firmly, bump to the bottom corner of the last half of the book. Exterior - there is a light twist to the spine, light edge wear, light creases on the spine, bump at the bottom corner of the rear cover, two very small ink marks on the rear cover, very light browning to the edges of the text block.. First Edition. Soft Cover with Self Flaps. Good+.
