About the author

Mariana Griswold Van Rensselaer (1851-1934) was the first female architecture critic of note. An honorary member of the American Institute of Architects, she received her doctorate from Columbia University and was awarded a 1924 Gold Medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
