About the author

Dick King-Smith's beloved animal tales have sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and his book The Sheep-Pig was made into the film Babe. Before he became a writer, Dick King-Smith was a farmer and a teacher. He said, " I never dress my animals in clothes. They behave as animals should behave, with the exception that they open their mouths and speak the Queen's English." Dick King-Smith died in 2011 at the age of 88.

Victor Ambrus was born in Hungary in 1935. He moved to England in 1956 to study at the Royal College of Art, where he met his wife, Glenys. Since then Victor has illustrated almost 300 books and has twice won the Kate Greenaway Medal. As the artist on Channel 4's Time Team, Victor brought sites under excavation to life - for many viewers, his superb artwork was far more exciting than the show's 3D computer graphics!
