Tait (1858-1941) was a prominent Sevent-Day Adventist, & this work has never gone out of print. This FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1899 has 279 pages, lavishly illustrated throughout with engravings & a frontispiece by C. Mente, marbling to exterior page edges & floral endpapers. Hardcover 8vo has brown cloth-covered boards lettered in bright gilt script to front & spine, with an image of a trumpeting angel stamped in silver to front board. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, front & rear hinges intact, but cracking at Table of Contents. Pages creamy white with moderate tanning to edges. Former owner's name & address in pen to ffep. Rubbing to extremities, with heavier wear to spine tips & corners, including fraying. No DJ, as issued.
