1650 1st ed Thomas Bayly Herba Parietis Wall-Flower Newgate Prison Romance FOLIO
A rare, first edition of Thomas Bayly's 'Herba Parietis' – a fascinating romance novel written while Bayly was imprisoned. A few of his writings offended the English authorities which landed him in Newgate prison. This 1650 first edition, printed in folio, features an impressive full-page frontispiece engraving of Newgate Prison, where Bayly was held. This famous Holden edition is quite popular and extremely rare.
The story itself describes the Roman exiles in 6th-century northern Africa. It is curious though, the title has little to nothing to do with the content of this work, and is often thought to be titled as such to bring Bayly hope or good cheer while in prison.

Robert Morison was a 17th-century Scottish botanist best-known for his book 'Plantarum Umbelliferarum Distributio Nova'. This book was an enormous work and one of best books of botany from the 17th-century. The successes of the 1672 'Plantarum' propelled Morison to write 'Plantarum Universalis Oxoniensis', which became his magnum opus. Sadly, Morison was never able to finish this work before his death. This book was written to describe fifteen classes of his botanical classification system. 1695 1ed FAMED Robert Boyle Against Swearing Cursing Oaths Philosophy Anger RARE

While mostly known for his contributions to natural philosophy and science, Robert Boyle was highly interested in theology, devoting much of his time to studying the existence of God, using his philosophical and even scientific discoveries as evidence. One of his many important treatises was his "Against Swearing and Cursing" – a discussion on the sins of cursing, dealing with anger, agreeing to and breaking oaths, and admissions of guilt.

The 'Printing and the Mind of Man' calls Boyle
"the best-known English scientist of his day, and the greatest experimental scientist of the mid-17th-century." (PMM 141).

MP3 Audio CD. Oh! Where do the Fairies Hide Their Heads OH! where do fairies hide their heads When snow lies on the hills, When frost has spoil’d their mossy beds, And crystalliz’d their rills? Beneath the moon they cannot trip In circles o’er the plain; And draughts of dew they cannot sip Till green leaves come again. Perhaps, in small, blue diving-bells, They plunge beneath the waves, Inhabiting the wreathed shells That lie in coral caves; Perhaps, in red Vesuvius, Carousals they maintain; And cheer their little spirits thus, Till green leaves come again. When they return there will be mirth, And music in the air, And fairy wings upon the earth, And mischief everywhere. The maids, to keep the elves aloof, Will bar the doors in vain; No key-hole will be fairy-proof, When green leaves come again.
