New York 1879 first edition thus: new and revised edition with an American preface. Appleton. hardcover octavo. Green cloth. Original light brown end papers. 390p. plus 6p. of book ads. No hinges cracked in or out; no owner marks. Paper on front inner hinge just beginning to crack . Both front and rear cover boards are stained but backstrip is not stained. Gilt spine lettering bright. Text clean; binding secure; no foxing or staining or tears in text. Light cover wear; corners not bumped, board edges not rubbed, spine ends not frayed; rear end papers a bit stained. Important book on highly controversial topic. Very Hard book to find - Very Scarce. Good. .
