About This Item

NY: St. Martin's Press, 1979. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 4to. 187pp. Blue vinyl boards, gilt spine titles. First edition. Signed and inscribed by Richardson on the title page: "For Deem and Bradbury / I hope you like this as much as I have admired your work." Also laid in is a typed note to "Brad" from John W. Ripley, editor of the Shawnee County Historical Society Bulletin, who recommends both Richardson and his book, while also making reference to Richardson's recent marriage, "one of the lovliest and most unique ceremony imaginable." The presumed recipients were graphic designer J. Bradbury Thompson, a Topeka native, and his wife Della Deen. Our research has been unable to determine whether "Deem" was indeed a nickname of Mrs. Thompson, or whether Ripley made a mistake that Richardson then repeated. Light foxing to top and fore-edge of textblock. Light bumping to spine ends and board corners. Unclipped jacket shows some creasing and rubbing at spine ends and tips, with moderate foxing to the interior. A very good (+) copy in like jacket of Richardson's classic photo-documentation of daily life at Rossville High School in Rossville, Kansas.
