En la impreta de Don Antonio Mayoral, en Madrid 1768, Pet. in-4 (15x21cm), (24) 549pp., relié. - Nouvelle édition, après l'originale parue en 1684. Impression sur deux colonnes. Reliure en plein vélin souple d'époque. Dos lisse avec titre à la plume. Traces de lacets. Reliure détachée de l'ouvrage, et portant un large manque en queue. Célèbre ouvrage dont l'histoire eut un grand retentissement en Europe, et notamment en France par sa traduction en 1692. Rivadeneyra avait été nommé historiographe des Indes. L'ouvrage conte l'expédition de Cortes et la conquête du Mexique, ou plus précisément de l'empire des Aztèques, autrement appelé Nouvelle Espagne. Les principales sources que l'auteur utilisa furent les lettres de Cortez et les uvres de Lopez de Gomara. Le livre conte en outre les nombreuses relations qu'eut Cortez avec Montezuma et donnent d'intéressants aperçus sur les murs et les coutumes des indiens. Nombreux renseignements économiques sur la population et l'accroissement de la colonie.? Double column. de photos Contemporary flexible vellum. Spine titled in ink. Traces of ties. Binding detached, with significant lack to foot. A famous work whose publication had significant impact in Europe, notably in France following its translation in 1692. Rivadeneyra was appointed Historian of the Indies. The work recounts Cortes' expedition and the conquest of Mexico, or rather the Aztec Empire, otherwise known as New Spain. The author principally relied on Cortes' letters and the works of Lopez de Gomara. It outlines the numerous contacts Cortes had with Montezuma and makes interesting observations on the mores and dress of the indigenous peoples. It also contains a significant amount of economic data on the population and the growth of the colony. +
