London; Henry Colburn, 1850., 1850. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED PRESENTATION COPY. Octavo, pp. xii, 400, [4] & 16 catalogues. Steel-engraving, tissue-guarded frontispiece of the Author after her portrait by John Hayes. Publishers' olive green cloth with gilt titles and decoration to spine, borders and foliate decoration in blind to boards and urn motif in gilt to upper board. Spine a little sunned, with nicks to joints and 4 cm split at lower rear joint; corners lightly bruised. Upper hinge starting. With a lengthy inscription to one Mrs Campbell to half-title, referring to visits made together with the Author, with her signature. The earliest literary work of historian Agnes Strickland, some of which was originally published anonymously and subsequently claimed by other writers. Subject matter includes descriptions of historical events, and miscellaneous verse. Strickland is best known for her seminal twelve volume "Lives of the Queens of England". A solid copy with a personal inscription from the Author to a close friend.
