The scarce first edition of this work. Inscribed by the publisher to the front free endpaper "To William Napien Esq, Grand Junction Wharf as a mark from everyone from the publisher."A fascinating volume on the history and delineation of the Scottish city of Aberdeen, with chapters on the historical account, a sketch of ancient customs and manners of the inhabitants, the bridges, public buildings, public institutions, benevolent societies, commercial establishments, domestic establishments, manufactures and commerce, burial grounds, and population. With two pages of advertisement to the volume.Illustrated throughout with engravings of the principal bridges, public buildings, and sacred edifices in and about the city. Collated with fifteen plates. In the original publisher's paper covered boards. Externally, sound with minor markings to the boards, and a slight cracking to the front joint, shelfwear and edgewear, as well as a slight bumping to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Inscribed by the publisher to the front free endpaper "To William Napien Esq, Grand Junction Wharf as a mark from everyone from the publisher." Internally, hinges are slightly strained to the front and rear board, otherwise binding is generally firm throughout. Pages are generally clean throughout with only the occasional faint scattered spotting to the odd leaf and a minor toe ageing, as usual due to the type of paper used. Embellished with engravings of the principal bridges, public buildings, and sacred edifices in and about the city. Collated with fifteen plates. Good
