Boston: Printed by John Wilson and Son, 1860. First edition. Hardcover. g+ to vg. Small Quarto. (5)pp., one foldout map, 467pp., vii, 5-158pp. Brown cloth with blind-stamped ruling and tooling on cover, blind-stamped ruling and gilt lettering on spine. Gray endpapers. Frontispiece with tissue guard. Foldout map of Leicester. Historical sketches of Leicester, Massachusetts, first settled in 1713, and the Leicester Academy, founded in 1784, one of the few coeducational institutions of the time. It's charter was signed by both John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The Leicester history is illustrated with five additional engravings, with tissue guards. Binding with light wear along edges, small chips and half an inch closed tear at top of front joint. Previous owner's name, Sophia Sargent McFarland, inked to title page, dated July 1860. Foldout map with five inch closed tear not affecting map, light foxing. Block lightly age toned. Binding and interior in overall good+ to very good condition.
