A comprehensive history of American painting, opening with a study of primitive art, and looking through the careers of artists such as Copley, Benjamin West, Allston Malbone, and Vanderlyn. With a study of the evolution of New York as an art centre, landscape paintings, modern portraits, and mural decorations among much more. A large paper volume. Written by Samuel Isham, American portrait and figure painter in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century. Illustrated with twelve full page plates of photogravures and numerous further illustrations in text. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine, back strip only lightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
