Marbled endpapers. Volume I covers the history of England from the Saxon Period to the execution of Charles I. Volume II covers the Commonwealth and the Protectorate, concluding with Cromwell's declaration of war on Spain in 1655 and appendices including notes on "The Army Modelled by Oliver Cromwell", "Trial of Liliburne", "The Act for Settlement of Ireland", etc. Vol. I has a very small puckered marbled paper tear on front board - repaired, a tiny scuff on leather near front hinge, two 3/4" dia. foxing marks on page leaf cxxvii/cxxviii with some offset on adjacent pages. Vol. II has an approx. 5" long irregular shaped area of light staining/waviness towards bottom corner of marbled paper on front board. Both volumes have some very small areas of faint tape residue at top/bottom of most endpapers, some light toning to the edges of verso of free endpapers, light to moderate rubbing on marbled paper on boards, light to moderate edge wear, browning to top of text blocks, light fading to leather spines..
