Volume III: The Roman Empire after Barbarian Invasions, 367 pages. Volume IV: map of empire in A.D. 505, 394 pages. Volume V: map of Roman Empire in 628 and 750, 394 pages. Volume VI: map of Roman Empire in A.D. 950, 377 pages. Volume VII: empire in A.D. 1400, 440 pages. Volume VIII: 363 pages. Very tiny surface nick on red spine of Volume V, two such nicks on spine of Volume VI. Near Very Fine Set.

Synopsis

The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire was written by English historian Edward Gibbon and published in six volumes. Volume I was published in 1776, and went through six printings. Volumes II and III were published in 1781; volumes IV, V, VI in 1788-89. The original volumes were published in quarto sections, a common publishing practice of the time.
