Hardcover. 8vo ( 9" x 6.6") blind-stamped green cloth, gilt title at spine. viii, [3], 535 pp., 22 green and pink maps ranging from 3" x 4" to several 6.5" x 8.5" fold-outs. Collections of the Maine Historical Society. Second Series. A substantial history of European exploration, mainly along the northeast coast of North America, including 22 color maps, reduced and lithographed in Bremen, produced by mapmakers such as Mercator, Cabot, and Zeni between 1400 and 1569. The explorations of the Northmen, English, French and Spanish are detailed.
