Dublin: James Williams, 1782. Hardcover. Ex-Library. Volume five only! Hardcover with full-leather boards, 1782, small octavo, 400pp., illustrated with b&w engravings. Book ex-library with only indications being two small stamps to rear endpapers; otherwise book VG with moderate rubbing to spine, spine leather dried and cracking, joints worn and front joint cracked, edgewear and rubbing to boards, title band on spine legible though dulled, binding tight, previous owner's signature to full-title, otherwise text unmarked but toned and foxed throughout. No DJ. This volume deals primarily with birds.

Synopsis

A History of the Earth, and Animated Nature is a fascinating work of natural history. It was first published in 1774 in eight volumes, these volumes brought together a history of the earth with a description of its geographical features and species.  Oliver Goldsmith was a novelist, poet and journalist as well as the author of many works of natural history. He is now best known for his 1766 novel, The Vicar of Wakefield .
