Cloth, 8vo,. xvii, 364 pp. From the blurb: "If history can be regarded as an analysis of the present, because in the past are found the elements of which the present is composed, an account of English education since 1760 can be so treated as to explain and illustrate the present situation. This is what the author attempts to do. The whole field of the subject is surveyed - the burîjtng-up of the administrative structure of the educational system, the development of educational theory and practice, the evolution of educational institutions such as schools, colleges and universities, the work of individual teachers and educationists, the progress of the curriculum and of teaching techniques. Together these make up the content of the educational history of the period ; but cohesion to the story is afforded by relating these topics one to another and to the social and economic conditions with which they are so closely associated.
