Volume IV only of the four-volume set, originally published in 1874 under the title "A Short History of the English People" which covered the period from the year 607 through 1815. This installment continues story of the "English Revolution" (English Civil War) and its aftermath, 1660 to 1760; and so-called "Modern England" describing events from 1760 to 1815, including the American Revolution. With engraved black & white illustrations and three double-page, tipped-in colored maps. With index to all four volumes in the set at rear of book. --- In dark cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling and black and gilt decorations to cover and spine; top edge gilt and with olive floral endpapers. --- The maps are printed on papers which have tanned due to acidic staining, and with a tear to front free endpaper edge, tears to paper covering of front hinge, but binding remains tight; some soiling and rubbing to covers & mild sunning to spine. Overall a sound copy.; Small Octavo - 7-1/2 to 8 in. tall; 450 pages .
