CONDITION

In good condition. The books are strong and tight. The dust jackets have a little wear and creasing to edges and hinges and the odd tear. Slight losses to the top of spine on volume I. The odd spot to page edges and end-papers, otherwise fresh and clean throughout. None are price-clipped and no inscriptions.

Overall, a nice set in good condition.

INTERESTING

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874 to 1965) was a British statesman, army officer, and writer. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, when he led the coalition government in the Second World War, and prime minister from 1951 to 1955. Apart from two years between 1922 and 1924, Churchill was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1900 to 1964 and represented a total of five constituencies. Ideologically an economic liberal and imperialist, he was for most of his career a member of the Conservative Party, as leader from 1940 to 1955. He was a member of the Liberal Party from 1904 to 1924.

A History of the English-Speaking Peoples is a four-volume history of Britain and its former colonies and possessions throughout the world, written by Winston Churchill, covering the period from Caesar's invasions of Britain (55 BC) to the end of the Second Boer War (1902).[1] It was started in 1937 and finally published 1956–58, delayed several times by war and his work on other texts.

The seminal work that fixes in time the key beliefs and attitudes that drove the late colonial era- well worth a contemporary read!
