London: George G. Harrap & Co., Ltd., [1949]. Tall 8vo. 280 pp. Colour frontisp., 7 colour plates, 32 photo & text illustrations. Purple cloth, gilt lettering on spine (slight bumping to couple corners, slight pulling to front hinge), w/ d.j. (minor chipping head & foot of spine, minor edgewear, creasing), still VG/G- copy, from the library of William MacDonald, Jr. (1921-2010), noted historian of Classical Roman architecture and art, w/ ownership signature on ffep. First edition of this fascinating history of fireworks by one of the members of the famed family of fireworks manufacturers, whose firm was founded in 1720. They were best remembered for their free public displays known as Brock’s Benefits developed in association with the Crystal Palace.
