Introduction by editor, note on the selection of texts, bibliographical note, chronology and index. Light blue coloured cloth covered boards with dark blue coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Commissioned in 1520 by Pope Leo X, and presented to Pope Clement VII in 1525 – this is Machiavelli's longest work. This is the history of Florence from its origin to the death of Lorenzo di Piero de’ Medici in 1492. It contains criticism of the church and popes and revealing portraits of the leading citizens of the day, especially the Medici family. First published in 1532. Part of The Great Histories Series – number 11. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges, which, also shows sunning and some marking. Rubbing of the book edges with faint foxing along the edges. Very light age toning of the text block edges and pages with a little foxing of the text block edges. A few marks to the end pages. first publication by this publisher.
