Octavo. 187pp. One of the most brilliant dust jacket with front panel showing the horrors of war where the real enemy is the ugly monster symbolized by the green ravenous beast faced by the soldier in stark horror. Liam O'Flaherty served in World War I as a private in the Irish Guards, so this was his coming to grips with the "war to end all wars". Bound in brown cloth, spine lettering green, some off setting to endpapers, in pictorial dust jacket with chipping to corners and along upper edge of jacket, a crease to rear panel and a dark spot to spine. A very good copy.

Undated, believed to be 1916. With owner's name neatly written in gothic script, and also something mentioning that it was given to him on 11th June 1917 [which I happen to know was his tenth birthday]. Probably unread. Contains many full-page colour illustrations.. Pictorial Cover. Fine.

Listed in Monthly catalog of United States goverment publications, April 1918, p. 588, as issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Publicity Bureau.(Worldcat). Near Fine, 1" tear bottom left corner, 1/2" tear bottom edge. Printed "Joseph Pennell Del " lower left, signed in plate lower right "J. Pennell". One of the truly iconic posters of WWI, in the collections of several museums. Ready for framing, will be shipped flat as it is mounted to mat board. . First Printing. Poster. Arthur H.Stockwell, London [c.1925]., 1925. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). Slim 8vo. 31pp. Textured purple cloth with gilt lettering and a blind-stamped border to the upper board. The backstrip ends a little rubbed and worn, and the cloth there faded with a little further uneven fading to the margins of the boards. Some light spotting to the endpapers and title leaf, and the binding a little tender at one gathering. Quite a nice, bright copy of a most uncommon book, which comprises fifteen chronologically ordered poems spanning 1914-1919, split into three sections: 'Portents 1914', 'Home' and 'France and Flanders'. Rather than folk rhymes, I believe these to be original poems, but the work is not noted by Reilly and I can find only two references to either the author or the book: a note in a 7 August 1925 issue of 'The Argus', and a passing reference in an article in the December 1928 issue of 'The Musical Times'..

New York & London: Alfred a Knopf, 1929. Third edition "completely revised". 754 pp. including index. The blue boards are faded around the edges and spine. Otherwise fine: Unmarked and in a tight binding with hinges intact. The dust jacket has light edge wear, including a 1/4" chip at the spine head. The spine and edges are tanned. There are some small stains. In Brodart archival dust jacket protector.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
