James Fraser was an important 18th-century historian known for his contributions to the European understanding of Persian, Moghul, and Indian cultures. While Fraser was living in India, the Persian Nader Shah invaded India giving him first-hand access to the events. He wrote a book entitled 'The History of the Nadir Shah' which, according to the DNB

"is important not only as a first hand contribution to the history of the events, but also for the number of original documents which it alone has preserved".

Nader Shah, also known as Qoli Khan, was a Persian shah known for being one of the most powerful Iranian rulers in the history of the Middle East. And while he was powerful, his power corrupted him, and he became exceedingly cruel to his subjects which propelled his invasion of India in the 1730s.

This 1742 first edition is exceedingly rare and valuable and is complete with the often-lacking map of the Mogul Empire!

Papinius Statius was a 1st-century Roman poet remembered for his epic poems 'Thebaid', 'Silvae' and 'Achilleid'. These works tell famous stories of mythology and iconic heroes – namely Oedipus and Achilles. These poems were known to have had significant influence on Juvenal as well as into the 12th-century on Chaucer, Dante, and Boccaccio as well as Dryden and Grotius in the Renaissance.

This 1559 edition is incredibly rare! It was published in Lyon by Sebastien Gryphe and includes each of the three expected works of Statius.
