Lowell's rewriting of "Notebook" with about 80 new poems, including an almost-apologetic note regarding the need for the rewriting: i.e., writer's remorse. But there is wonder here in Lowell's free sonnets, "I must either be Christian or non-violent; / past history is immobile in our committed hands, / till Death drops his white marble scythe--Brother, / one skeleton among our skeletons." History from Abel to Anne Boleyn to Robert Kennedy to "Red and Black Brick Boston" in the winter. 207 pages.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover.
