Spencer Pryse with a B&W frontispiece and 19 comparable full-page plates, maroon pictorial endpapers depicting a young man and woman, 770 deckle-edged pages. Weight: 3 lbs. 2 oz. Solid copy with spotting to covers and slight rubbing to a few edges of the deckled pages. All plates are bright and without foxing. Small repaired 3/8" V-nick halfway down spine. Lacks the dust jacket. <br/><br/>The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling (1749) is a bestselling comic novel by English playwright, judge, and novelist Henry Fielding (1707 - 1754). Tom Jones is the author's greatest book, and a pioneering novel written as a humorous Bildungsroman and picaresque novel about a young man's adventures. <br/><br/>Gerald Spencer Pryse (1882-1956) was a British artist, member of the Fabian Society, and lithographer. In addition, he served as a soldier during the First World War, and--as a Captain--was awarded the Military Cross and other notable awards for his service during the Third Battle of Ypres.
