About the author

SEIJI NAGATA (1951- ) is at present vice director and curator-in-chief of the Ota Memorial Museum of Art, Tokyo. In 1990, he established the Katsushika Hokusai Museum of Art in Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture. His principal published works include (in Japanese) surveys of various aspects of Hokusai's art, The Hokusai Museum (five vols., 1990), and Essays on Katsushika Hokusai (1994).
