A beautiful private-press production First Golden Cockerel Press edition, number 5 of 100 deluxe copies signed by the translator and specially bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, from a total edition of 750 copies. This edition features the original Ancient Greek text alongside Lucas's English translation, with woodcut illustrations by the Belgian artist Mark Severin. Tall quarto. Publisher's deluxe binding of full red morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, spine lettered in gilt, two raised bands, covers decorated in gilt after Severn's illustrations, turn-ins ruled in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. With original grey cloth slipcase. With 13 wood engravings. Title page printed in black and red. Text printed in Poliphilus Roman and New Hellenic Greek types on Arnold's mould-made paper by F. J. Newbery at the Chiswick Press. Bookseller's ticket to front turn-in. Binding a little darkened, a near-fine copy.
