About This Item
An excellent novel set in the South at the beginning of the Civil Rights movement with a moral ambiguity that is no less unsettling now than when it was published. The publisher rejected its original title, The Black Mass of Brother Springer, and gave it a "sexy" cover and blurbs like "He was white. She was beautiful -- and bad" that are completely at-odds with the book's pitchblack-humored style.
