Description:
Poetry by the author written from 1968-1974. He states that his poetry is in the western tradition, but its essence is Pan-African. He studied at Liberty University and the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a writer and lecturer at Wesleyan and at Yale. He was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Afro- American studies. The last few poems have the character 'Shine'. The author says that this is from an old story in the African American community that Shine was the only Negro aboard the Titanic. Very 60's. Great poetry.
