New York: Harper & Brothers, 1950. First edition, 1950. Deep crimson cloth with silver gilt cover lettering, 376 pages, color illustrated dustjacket including a black and white bust plate of Horace Greeley. The book is in very good condition with very little external wear, sound text block, good hinges, name and address in tiny letters atop left corner of front free endpaper, otherwise clean pages with no additional markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not corner clipped and is also in very good condition mildly rubbed extreme spine ends, some very minor chipping to the spine ends and corners. Self-described on the cover: 'A definitive biography of the eccentric and surprisingly successful editor who was the leading crusader of the Civil War era.' . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
