About This Item
New York, NY: Random House, 1946 Random House, New York. 1946. Hardcover. Stated First Printing. Signed by the author on the FFFP in pencil. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for former owner bookplate on FFFP. Book Condition: Very Good; light sunning to spine; bumping to head, tail, and lower tips. No DJ. Blue cloth boards and spine with silver lettering on spine in black shadowbox. 420 pp 8vo. There's an enormous amount of interesting and challenging comment on the two major war fronts (North Africa and Italy- and CBI with the inauguration of the B- 29's). There's fearless criticism of the policy in Italy- and intelligent analysis and defense of the policy in North Africa and the handling of De Gaulle. As interpreter, liaison man, intelligence service- he had a strategic position from which to approach the various situations. He was later sent as a correspondent to France- then to Germany, and views the intransigence of the Germans, who do not consider themselves responsible for the world holocaust, nor look upon themselves as a defeated nation. And in the closing chapters, he presents his views of the San Francisco Conference (United Nations)- its achievements, its failures. A clean very presentable copy.
