Red cloth lettered in gilt; top edge a little foxed; an excellent copy with the fine dustwrapper. One of 1000 copies of the second American edition of Upfield's first book. Philip José Farmer provides a three-page introduction. Arthur William Upfield (1890-1964), writer and bushman, is best known for his series of 29 crime novels featuring the part-Aboriginal detective Napoleon Bonaparte (who does not appear in this mystery story).
