North Carolina: N.p. (Manuscript), 1889. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Fair. Folio. 27 pages, plus 6 other handwritten page and 3 typed pages laid in loosely and paper-clipped together. The binding measures about 15 1/2 inches tall by 11 inches wide. Bound in half leather with cloth-covered boards. The spine has completely disintegrated and the boards are just barely holding on. Corners rubbed and chipped. Paper label on the front cover has "Methodism in Beaufort" handwritten in ink. The original ledge was for the "Queen (Fire) Insurance Company of Liverpool, England" with the office in New York. Three leaves have been cut out at the front, but this may have been of different material. The first page reads, "Methodism in Beaufort..." and serves as a title page. The front pastedown has (pasted down) a letter from C. P. Jones entitled "Brief Historical Statement," which is about 3 pages long. The page after the title page begins the history,…

Hardcovers bound in early black half leather with burgundy marbled paper-covered boards. Moderate wear to the bindings. Volume I has a tear at the foot of the spine and some wrinkles on the spine. Volume III has some heavy scuffing on the rear hinge and there is cracking on the rear hinge running about 7 inches up from the foot. The rest of the bindings have some bumping and scuffing but are generally quite sound and serviceable. The text is variously toned and has some occasional foxing. Many of the interior issues have center folds. We've seen one page that has a tear at the fore edge running into the text, but overall the text is sound and undamaged. Illustrated throughout. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
