About This Item

[Coral Gables, Florida]: Wake-Brook House, 1967. FIRST EDITION. With frontispiece and 20 plates (8 double-page). Two-tone cloth. Inscription of author to fly-leaf. First edition of this humorous account of life as a doctor's wife. "This is a treatise on survival, not success. But I have incontestable proof that you can be a doctor's wife without really dying. I'm alive . . . You don't have to agree with me. You don't even have to read the book. Feel free to use it to press violets, balance the short leg of the card table, or throw it at your husband's head." Wolf discusses such metaphysical concepts as no doctor's wife would dare get sick, and whether a wife should go to medical meetings. Wolf (fl. 1970) graduated from Mount Holyoke College. Her husband, the American physician George Anthony Wolf (b,1914), was Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, vice-president for Medical and Dental affairs at Tufts University, and director of the New England Medical Center. She is the author of several humourous works, including I'll take the back road and Of cabbages and kings and many other things.
